A structured 11+ preparation programme for children in Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5, designed to build the skills, speed, confidence and exam technique needed for Slough Consortium grammar school entrance exams.
At Luma Education, we do not believe in giving children random worksheets and hoping they improve. Our 11+ programme is carefully structured around the four key areas tested in selective school preparation: English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
Every session begins with a timed activity. This helps children build speed, focus and exam discipline from the start. After this, learning becomes more targeted. Tutors use a mix of small-group teaching, guided practice and tailored individual tasks to work on each child’s weaknesses.
Timed Starter Activities
Engaging warm-ups across English, Maths, Verbal, and Non-Verbal Reasoning to sharpen core skills.
Clear Skill Instruction
Explicit teaching of essential 11+ methodologies and techniques for academic mastery.
Small-Group Collaboration
Targeted sessions with a maximum 5:1 pupil-to-tutor ratio to foster confidence, discussion, and problem-solving.
Tailored Learning Tasks
Personalized assignments meticulously designed to address each student’s specific needs and current ability.
Exam-Style Practice
Rigorous testing scenarios to systematically enhance speed, accuracy, and test stamina.
Comprehensive Feedback Systems
Three distinct tiers of assessment, providing parents with actionable insights for future development.
Structured Mistake Mastery
An analytical log that guides pupils to identify errors, evaluate causes, and implement targeted strategies to ensure improvement.
This means your child is not just “doing more work”. They are learning how to think faster, avoid common mistakes and
approach exam questions with confidence.
Our structured approach prepares students confidently for every major academic
milestone — from KS1 to A-Level.

Year 3 focuses on building core foundations without overwhelming pupils. Since advanced Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning can be premature, we introduce these skills gradually through structured, puzzle-based activities, patterns, and problem-solving tasks. This foundational approach helps children develop the critical thinking skills required for future success in Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
Best for: children who would benefit from an early, calm and confident start.

Year 4 focuses on advancing targeted preparation through consistent routines. Pupils work across English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning, incorporating weekly timed practice into the programme. This focused approach establishes accuracy first, allowing pupils to gain familiarity with the structure of 11+ papers before gradually increasing speed.
Best for: children starting serious 11+ preparation at the right time.

Year 5 focuses on mastering intensive examination readiness through high-pressure scenarios. The programme emphasizes timed practice, refined technique, accuracy under pressure, and optimised mock performance. This approach provides pupils with targeted support, enabling parents to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement before the final assessment.
Best for: children preparing for the Slough Consortium 11+ exam.
Parents need more than vague updates. They need to know what their child is doing well, what needs improvement and what the next step should be. That is why feedback is built into our programme.
After each session, parents receive feedback on what was covered, how their child performed and what should be practised at home. This keeps parents involved and prevents children from falling behind quietly.
Every two months, we hold a more detailed parent progress meeting. This gives parents a clear picture of their child’s progress, confidence, homework habits, timing, accuracy and exam readiness.
Mock exams are a key part of the Luma Education 11+ journey. They help children experience exam pressure, timed sections and realistic test conditions before the real exam.
Our mock exam approach is designed to turn mistakes into marks. Parents receive clear feedback, and children learn exactly where they lost marks and how to improve.
We do not guarantee grammar school entry, because no responsible tuition provider can honestly guarantee an outcome. Results depend on a child’s starting point, consistency, homework, confidence and exam-day performance.
What we do guarantee is a structured programme, regular timed practice, clear teaching, honest feedback, mock exams and a dedicated team focused on helping your child make measurable progress.
